my main Internet sources are questoutfitters and Outdoor Wilderness Fabric.

A number of the cottage industry guys who hang out on HF some some offerings for DIY projects, but for the stuff you mentioned I've always gone to quest or owf.

I'm hoping others will chime in with other options, just to know what else is out there.

I've had great success buying from Scott at DIY Gear Supply aka Backwoods DayDreamer. He carries the 3 things you mentioned and tons more.

For things that I need immediately Hancocks and JoAnns are convenient for fabric. Lowes/Home Depot/Ace Hardware/REI/Wal-Mart are convenient for hardware. If you have a chandlery (such as West Marine) nearby they often times carry Amsteel and other tid bits of use as well.

Also, don't overlook reuse centers such as Goodwill for raw materials. May take a bit of processing to get the bit you need but can often be treasure troves waiting to be found.
