I really like the way this looks and works..........I noticed that the pole pockets are at a 45 degree angle, roughly, and while you are sitting in it ther is a great deal of stress on the stitching. I was wondering if you were to move the pockets more in line with the front edge of the seat to alleviate this issue.

    Thanks guys.

I'm not sure about changing the pocket angle, although I see what you're pointing out. The 45* angle puts them in line with the direction the poles have to be. The poles I'm using have "ergo" angled grips making it appear like they are not in line with the pocket in the "stress" photo. I'm stitching one up with double layers surrounding the pockets and front end to reinforce the area.

The poles have to be crossed and angled back under you or you simply fall back against the tree or flop over to the side. Sorry I don't have a video to show me trying to get that right. It would be quite amusing but the language would not be suitable for this forum. At the correct angle, it is pretty stable.

As to using your full length hammock, couldn't you tie it off in the middle and hang it there?

I can't reach high enough to hang my 10'-6" hammock in this fashion.

This "chair" is only 54" long and is to be used as a gear hammock as well. Use WP nylon, add shock cord and you have a pack cover as well. This first version weighs in the neighborhood of 3 oz.
Perhaps SGT Rock was thinking of folding the hammock in half, attaching both ends to the same point. Then the difference in length is only about 5" right?

If that were done, the webbing that would usually be used on the second tree could be inserted though the folded hammock. Then it might not even need pockets. Maybe fold the webbing a couple times to secure it within the fabric, and attach the poles to the webbing? I haven't tried this, so I may be wrong.

edit: I see that High Binder had previously made this suggestion.

I made up a new version last night with the front end doubled over and the pocket material doubled up as well. It is stitched with Gutermann Mara 70 thread and I am no longer concerned about the strength.

After taking another look, I think the your idea of angling the pocket forward would help. When you sit in the chair, it draws the front edge backward and out of line with the current 45* pockets. Thanks.

As to the idea several have discussed about using my regular hammock folded over...sorry, but it's not for me.

I can set up camp, have a comfortable chair where I want it and climb into the hammock at will. I can't see purposely waiting until I want to sleep to take down the chair, unpack and then set up a hammock, bug net, UQ and TQ in the dark.

I can also stuff the hammock with the bug net on it, pack it away and still have easy access to a chair if desired for an extended break.

I realize this isn't for everyone, but it works for me.

    Thanks.

It can be a little finicky to get the poles placed just right for balance, but once you do, it's a real nice chair. The short whoopie sling on the top makes the height easy to dial in.

If anyone is wanting to play with the pockets, the pattern for the point is cut out of square. When squared up to the chair, it forms an open pocket.

This is really nice, and you can face toward the fire, where as with the regular hammock chair you face a tree. I will have to sew some pockets on my hammock chair and convert it. Thanks for the info. and you did a wonderful job.
