And they don't return phone calls for phone orders either. I wound up doing it online instead. But no hurry...I'm just anxious!

    POle Mode

I'm wondering if you would get even more room if you pitched the tarp a bit limp at first, then rigged up the pole mod such that it was snug to the tarp in the center (at the ridgeline), and finally tightened up the tarp pitch as per normal. Inquiring minds want to know

I use a similar set up on my claytor diamond tarp, originally I used a long aluminum pole which was bowed tight to the inside of the tarp pushing out against the fabric, but this created too much stress on the fabric and seams along the mid points of the sides of the tarp.(can cause drippage thru tarp at ridge line in a down pour ) Cut poles shorter so the pole does not touch the top of the tarp. Added velcro tabs at seams midway on sides to hold pole at center postion. The way the pic's show with a gap between tarp and pole at ridge line is the way to go. I use a stake at the outside corners along with the center stake at center under the hammock with the thru line as you have pictured, works well enough in stormy weather.

It's working fine on my Macat Ultra. I sewed a gross grain ribbon on the ridge line to keep it in place. BUT was sure to seem seal the stitching afterwards.

And yes, putting in the pole before tightening everything up works best for me.

    I'll take pics this weekend.....

As promised...Picks of my Macat Ultra with new Pole Mod.
    In Porch Mode

    Staked Out

    Grosgrain Center Tie

    Webbing Pole Pocket

    Night Shot

I used webbing and folded it over off center leaving a tab at the top so I could slide the pole into it so I wouldn't be continually poking the tarp with the pole.

I didn't have any black grosgrain but some light blue that matched the color pretty well. Be sure to seam seal this well on both sides! I failed to do this and had a drip over me at the John Rock Hang couple weeks ago. Also use sealer made for Silnylon like SilNet or SilFix if that's what your tarp is made of. I tried AquaSeal and it did not stick!

It was an easy mod and I just love being able to slip the line off of the stakes and have it rise up into porch mode!

Wow, Debbie - that "porch mode" shot is awesome!
I really like the way you did the pole pockets - nice and neat!

I'm still dawdling on getting my pole for my Ultra Spinn - too many projects in the works (I just got a shipment of 7D fabric yesterday - incredible stuff). But, you have given me new resolve!!

Well it took me a time or two to get the placement of the pole pockets right. I ordered the pole the exact size of the tarp so there was no allowance for the pocket to even be on the edge of the grosgrain and it be tight. When it rained the other night the tarp didn't even move. Can't wait to see how it does in snow!
It's made things very convenient, next will be the doors!
