Valens most definitely this winter. I won't be going on this Algonquin excursion either due to prior commitments.

With the trip a little over 5 weeks away, has everyone started working out their canoe rides for those that don't have canoes or means to transport them?

    Cheers

You can still count me in!!!

I have a canoe (Wenonah Spirit II kevlar 17 ft) but no means of transporting it; it's currently stored at Toronto waterfront. Sold my truck and use Autoshare now.
Hey Sturgeon, you're welcome to come along. Because Shawnh is booking a separate reservation, we've got a bit more room. We'll see if we can get your canoe in the water. I don't have a roof rack, so I can only bring up one canoe with the foam pads, but maybe someone else has some ideas.

No specific plans yet Brian. As I recall, everyone (except Wolvaroo as far as I know) either owns or will be renting a canoe, and because I've been having elbow issues I might be looking for a bowman. Other than that, we only have to discuss carpooling. For my part, I'll likely have two seats available departing downtown Toronto Sept 30 at around 4:30am.

I'll happily keep one of those seats warm and pitch in for gas/timmies. If I bring my bike I would likely spend all weekend worring about it anyway.

Sorry guys, but due to an unforeseen **** storm of bills lately, I'll have to withdraw from the fall trip.

I just returned from a week in the park with my son, and it was great. The hills are just starting to show the first signs of colour change. The storms that rolled through last Wed evening were...interesting to say the least. They might have been the most intense I've ever seen in the bush.

Have a great trip, and take lots of pictures.

Sorry to hear you won't be able to come along. There's always next time!

Glad to hear you had a good trip with your son; I took my girls up to Pen Lake last weekend (Aug 26) and we also had a blast. Weather was clear and warm, although I knew that at the same time the east coast was getting hammered hurricane Irene. Go figure.

Count on lots of pictures and hopefully a quick trip vid.

    Cheers

    Yeah, that makes sense.

We leave in little over 20 days!!! We should start on all of the final arrangements, like carpooling, group menus (if any), canoe rentals and paddling partners.

There've been some comments around work about how much time I've been taking off in August and September, so I think I'd better bail on the canoe trip /fall hang. Sorry bout that. I was barely in, and now I'm out. I'll try to make the spring trip if it's a go (I'm not equipped for winter---yet!) Have a great time!

That's too bad Sturgeon, but on the bright side, you were able to get away to Algonquin once already this fall, with some nice pictures to show for it.

Winter hangs are fun. You've got to be a nutter and are a die-hard "meteorological-masochist" and have the right gear; they're cold but they're fun (It helps to have a heated builing 143.5 feet away from you hammock).

Look for a Spring 2012. I was thinking of something a little out of the ordinary, but more on that later...
