    What is a weather sheild?

I just saw a poll about what fabric to use for a weather shield, and I realized something. I have no idea what a weather shield is. What are they, what do they do, could I make one, and what do I need to make one out of? Any info anybody has on these....let me know! Thanks.

It's a water proof, breathable material that protects the under quilt and/or the top quilt from damp conditions. They used to be made microporus polypropylene , same stuff Frogg Toggs are made from. JRB used to sell them but the material that they used is no longer available. They are going to start selling them again soon made from a different material.

No exact definition of one. Many variations. Basically adds extra rain protection, condensation protection, warmth, and wind blocking. I'm finishing up a top cover for my bridge hammock today which could be defined as a weather shield.

Nope. 2 separate pieces: one for the under quilt and one for the top quilt.Jeff's site has a review for the JRB set that no longer exists. It should give you an idea of how they function. I made one from a Neat Sheet.

    HC4U, et al,

The JRB Weather Shield (TypeII) trial run has arrived and they look great....They will be up on the web site in two to three days.... Or as soon as possible, needless to say, we are swamped with orders and work this week.
