Question DWR and Gore Tex / eVent

    Does anyone know:
The difference in BREATH-ABILITY between these and other fabrics?
I heard that DWR was many times as breathable as even eVent, but can anyone pass on documentation or knowledge?
    Thanks, Mule

I know there is some bags made out of it, so it must breath some. I would also be interested in knowing this. I have been thinking about a bag or topquilt made out of a more waterproof material.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Event has been touted as the most breathable of the WP/breathable fabric but since it costs so much I may never know myself. That stuff is pricey.

Or this? Same link done differently. I think you meant this one, John.

    Here's an Event factsheet (pdf).

One of the reasons I am asking is that I have a fairly expensive Patagonia Rain jacket made with their so-called best breathable material. The material is:
"2.7-oz., 2.5-layer, 50-denier ripstop nylon with a waterproof H2No® HB (highly breathable) barrier; Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish".
The jacket I made from DWR ripstop blows this jacket away for breath-ability.
I'll bet DWR is multiple times as breathable as this stuff.

Probably the most detailed treatment I have seen of the relative merits of WPB materials is this article on the BPL site.

Edit: Sorry folks, I thought I'd checked it to see if it was a subscription-required article. You do need a BPL membership to view it. Thanks Angrysparrow.
Here is another source for some of the data presented there:

For the record, that link requires a BPL subscription.

That wasn't a problem for me, just sayin...

Very interesting link. Thanks angrysparrow. Still no data on DWR but it must be higher transfer rate than the membrane it is protecting.
