    Looking for a fan

    Hi all.

First time posting, but I suspect if anyone can point me in the right direction, ya'll can.

I am looking for a small fan that would run on AA batteries. I see that Coleman has a Zephyr mini fan for about 5 bucks, but I suspect you get what you pay for. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with a little cooling fan that you like.

    Thanks

If you're wanting to use it in the hammock the only issue with that is getting it rigged up. I'd suggest some thick copper wire that can be bent to shape.

Personally I'd dig around and try and find an old PC case fan.

I had one I found at a Harris Teeter years ago that had a clip on the battery box so you could attach it to a hat brim (or ridge line) and then a flexible neck and soft foam blades. Of course, the only thing we ever used it for was stoking the fire and eventually we melted the blades doing that.

There's this one which seems to get good reviews. Could be clipped to a structural ridgeline.

Here is the link to a thread where people were talking about fans a good while back and I drug it back up in April! What I use is on page 13! There are quite a few options in this thread though!

Excellent thanks for the topic redirect.

I searched for "fans" and it brought up a ton of unrelated topics, but the term "fan" brought up nothing as I suspect it was too short.

I use these little fans all summer long when camping out.
They are inexpensive, yes the D cell battires are heavy, but they last for many many nites running all night long and actually blow air on ya.

The Coleman tent fan (made to use a single D cell) can be literally stripped down to just the motor and the blade and to weigh less than 2 oz. w/o battery. It will hang from your ridgeline and run for about 20 hours on a D cell but will run just as well with any 1.5v battery (AAA, AA, C, or D). Of course, the smaller the battery the shorter the runtime. A couple of AA's should easily last the weekend if you just use it while in your hammock when you bed down for the night. It's amazing how much of a difference this fan makes on a summer night inside your bug net. No more lying in a pool of sweat trying to sleep and the slight noise just drones me to sleep.

Never mind, I found it in the thread from the earlier post. Thanks anyway.

I have four of these iFans that I bought at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago. They run on three AA batteries. I really like them because I can stretch out in the hammock and rest the fan flat on my chest. The air is sucked in through the "front" and blows out the "top." It's a centrifugal fan instead of a blade-type fan.
