Last week I drove down to Missouri for a three day bush whacking adventure with my son and his friends who wanted to celebrate their high school graduation. I was pretty busy getting set for the trip - making hammocks, tarps, UQs, TQs, and bug nets. Lots of camo and lots of big tarps. The work was well worth the effort.
There area we had chosen for our base of operations was some National Forest land located five miles south east of Ashland, MO. We chose our local based on the fact that no trail information was available. Indeed, there were no trails to speak of what so ever - with the exception of deer trails and the like. True bush whacking fun. We walked in circles for days. It was a gas!
We had three solid days of torrential down pours, scary high winds (tornadoes in Joplin and Sedalia), Spam in various forms (see video link), wicked tic infestations, and a swarm of locusts. Christ-on-a-crutch, what more could a fella ask for?
All agreed that the event was so much fun that we will definitely do it again next year, or maybe even this year, who knows.
Cheers
