I have both the 9 and 12, they are both great. I use the 9 as a 3 seasons tarp and the 12 is for winter. For the money, why not get the Noah's 9 as well? Then you have more options and a loaner if need be so you can get your buddies hooked on hanging too!

For 3 season I also have a WL tadpole, going to rig my kelty for winter.

    Thanks for the info all

I have the 12 also. I honestly wouldn't bother with it in diamond configuration. I use it as a hex, or winter.

It's big enough that even in a pretty good downpour I can leave it in porch mode using the inside ties for the poles, and battening the outside ties down.

I personally wouldn't pick up the 9 also. Use the 12 for awhile trying different configurations, and then when you're ready for a second tarp get something lighter like a silnylon hex to compliment the beast of the 12. I've actually got some silpoly on the way from ripstopbytheroll to make my second tarp now.

I am just getting into hanging and have been eyeing this tarp as a first dedicated hanging shelter.
I know there are better/lighter/purpose-built, (and way more expensive), hammocking tarps available, but the Noah 12 just seems so dang versatile, bulletproof...and affordable...
Held one in the store today and it doesn't seem "that" heavy.
I also like the idea of getting something that size at first as it seems like a bigger tarp will be a bit more forgiving for a newb "pitcher" should inclement weather kick in, as is almost guaranteed in my part of the world...
...then, down the road, when I'm ready to upgrade my set-up, the Noah will still be usable as a loaner or basecamp shelter...

I went the same route. Still use the Kelty all the time.
