Ultra Light Tarp line?

This might help. Tendertoe posted it awhile back and I saved it.

Kelty Triptease - 1 oz/50ft = 2 oz/100ft
Speer No Tangle - 1.8 oz/100ft
Zing-It/Lash-It - .12lb/100ft = 1.92oz/100ft
Dynaglide - .1 lb/100ft = 1.6 oz/100ft
Zpacks 1.25 - .55oz/50ft = 1.1oz/100ft

There is plenty more but that's just a few that most use. I use dynaglide. Its by far the strongest, 1000lb rating. Its not much more expensive. Its easy to splice. I hang off of it in the form of whoopies. Zpacks is lighter but only by .5oz, but can't be spliced and I believe is only rated at 100lbs. Plenty sufficient but the strength and spliceability of the dyna glide makes plenty worth it in my book. Plus its simple to only have to order one type of line that is light enough the use on everything.

I've been using 1.75mm Zing It for my tarp lines and I love it... I too was a 550 guy before using this stuff. Still keep some with me for other things.

If you've already got the 550 cord and don't mind some stretch then just pull the guts out. You'll end up with flat cord and you can use the other 7 inner strands for other stuff.

I use a mix of kelty triptease and some brightly colored stuff I got from Brian @ OES. I tried the braided mason line and found it to be really soft. It "fuzzed" up after any kind of abrasion. Maybe I got the wrong stuff though.

I did see WV using some 100lb test dyneema fishing line at mahha. It was insanely thin. It felt about as thin as your typical 8lb test. He mentioned he was still playing with it so if it works for him hopefully we'll hear about it.

Yep zing-it works well... you can do some prusik, and/or nacrabiners and not have to fool with hard wear...

I was looking for a comparison like this. Thanks. I'm using Zpacks 1.5mm line now. Considering switching to the dyna glide which would be slightly lighter and give me more options.

Stein dyneema arborist throwline is readily available over here in the UK, as is dynaglide and zing-it.

I'm using Stein 2.2mm for my ridge and tie outs after swapping from sheathed dyneema on one and Amsteel on another. It comes in different sizes and colours on a 45m spool. One spool of throwline will do your whole tarp, inc tie-outs.

Mason's Line. To go even lighter, don't do a full length line; just go from the ties on each end to the trees. But seriously, 50' of Mason's Line weighs less than the snack bar in your pocket.

I mostly use 1.25 mm Z-line (from Z-packs), but the Z-line slick is holds a knot or hitch better. The regular Z-line is a bit stiff, but it is darn light and works well. On a budget, I would most likely use the braided mason line..
The 1.25 mm Z-line weighs .55 ounces per 50 feet and costs 12.95.
I don't know if the 1.25 mm would work with Tarp Flyz or figure 9's but I might see if it will hold okay and hold up okay with my Tarp Flyz.
I use 1.5 or 1.75 mm with my tarp flyz.
