no soap. (or try a while in the dryer on airfluff with some shoes or something to beat up the tarp a bit..what you want is to break up the stiff surface connections)

+100 on the Tyvek. USe a 8x10 piece - weighs about 16 oz., hang it diagonally to get a decent length ridge line and only have to use 2 stakes to easily get a taut pitch. Use gutter nails as stakes, or for truly lightweight, chopsticks. As already stated, no grommetts, use pebble and guy line method. I have little rubber spheres picked up in the toy section at Target so as not to have to search for suitable rocks. I leave them attached for ease/speed of set up

an 8x8 tyvek square (or anything else for that matter) tied up diagonally works great, and minimizes the connection points...

I would (and have) stick with the tyvek. unless it's not big enough...

In this one case military ponchos are too small.
Look at Campmor for tarp & Ponchos,
i tryed that there was about a foot on each end uncovered, it waas the bigest poncho i could find

Use the Tyvek you have right now as a tarp. To make "grommets" simple put a nice size stone in the corner(s) and wrap it up, tie it off. Now you have a spot to tie rope to the corners. Then tie those to either trees or stakes. You will need a ridgeline too...GL
