Well the Silicone is plentiful in Kmart to Walmart, But I am going to guess that is not what you folks are using for 1.1 or 1.6 Ripstop... So what are you using that works?

He sat on a rail, And imbibed bitter ale,
Which refreshed that Old Man and his owl.WOO
You can use the 100% silicone caulk. But, you have to do a mix with mineral spirits to help with applying it.

There should be less by-products in the aquarium silicone, purer silicone. You don't want things leaching into your aquarium water. I'm not sure why it would matter for DIY Sil coatings as long as it does not have any acrylic, polyurethane, etc in with the silicone.
any caulking labeled 100% silicone will work fine. (Even in my aquarium!) -- resealed an 80-gallon hex with the stuff by GE. Worked great.
Anything labeled for a specific hobby is always 2x the price... you pay for peace of mind and marketing...
