    converted teen hello's!

hello hammock forum members! ive been here for a while but never formally said hello and was feeling a little guilty. Im 16, and live in Bangor maine, so have lots of experience in the woods! ive been camping and hiking since i was a wee little lad, and have always been a tent camper witht he family, since we never backpack, and often take canoe camping trips up in the allagash river.
I have a friend who was given an ENO dbl a while back as a gift and i saw it and thought it was "top of the line-only thing out there" for sleeping in hammock, and eventually picked one up myself. found shugs videos which directed me here soon after all this and have done quite a bit of reading on this site (ALOT!) and would just love to say thanks for all of the great help and for being such a vast wealth of knowledge!
I currently hang in an eno double nest (great fit for a 6'1" 155 lbs) and eno gaurdian bug net. Being a 16 year old without a job, i have a very very small budget, so am about to purchase a 9x9 campmor nylon coated tarp for very very cheap. I have yet to aquire an underquilt or top quilt, but since i do come from a family with loads of camping experience, ive got pleanty of sleeping bag options as well as a number of thermarest and other pads. hope to actually get out and do some camping in the hammock this year, as it will be my first summer with a setup, and have yet to use it for more then backyard hangin and a few indoor hangs. Well wish me luck on this great adventure of hammock camping! goodbye for now, Convertee

welcome from SC and a 19 year old who feels you on the tight budget
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

Howdy, Con. Welcome to a great place for learning and sharing. I, too, am always watching my pennies. You can pick up a lot of good camping gear and materials for DIY projects at thrift stores, rummage sales and military surplus stores. Particularly at rummage sales and garage sales, you can pick up stuff super cheap! Good luck and welcome again!

    Hey convertee!

I'm in about the same position as you. 17, 6'3", with no job. I've learned that if you convert a few friends, it really helps. I paired up with one friend to buy DIY supplies, and it just so happens that she has a thread injector and knows how to use it!

Welcome to HF, and I hope you learn a lot and contribute even more!
