    any "urban hangers" here?

just wondering, because i know i can walk into a wooded area and find a place to throw it up, but i find myself looking around public areas i can toss up the hammock.

Im not talking about camping overnight, just spending some time out. my wife and i used to go to a pier here in charleston that has a fountain next to it, a huge tourist place. we'd setup the hammocks and just spend an afternoon out, or watch sailboats and fireworks if they were happening.

btw youd be amazed at how many people would try to get into your hammock (even if your keys/cell phone are visable in the stuff sack and shoes under it) the moment you get out of it and say they thought it was part of the pier....yeah.

i did have a bike cop talk to me about them, even try mine out but i didnt think to get the pic. he said as long as i wasnt "camping" (with finger quotes, meaning setting up a bunch of stuff) i could stay all night. so i guess if i ever get to that point i have an option...

but i go a lot of places. im going to need to get some spare straps at this point because concrete sucks on em.

its really fun too to see people reaction and hear how many times "i wish id thought of that; thats a good idea" etc is said when they pass your setup!

im sure ill have some more pics at some point, but for now, ill be the "outlaw hanger" lol

Ah, Waterfront park. I was just there over Memorial Day weekend. The big roofed things down by the aquarium with all the benches under them would probably be a decent place to hang as well, if I remember correctly.

It sounds like a lot of fun actually. I remember someone posting a video about some dude who hangs his hammock in ridiculous places. After watching it, I'm convinced you can hang your hammock anywhere.

I've got lots of spots on my urban wish-list.

The dancing stick-people outside the Denver Center for the Performing Arts:

The DTC sculpture is about 3 blocks from my office and tempting. I always wonder just how many hammocks could hang on this thing:

Sadly, I'm too old to want a fresh start on a police record, so they are just dreams. But yeah, I'm constantly seeing things that would be fun to hang from in the midst of all the urban sprawl that is Denver.

if youre polite, ive learned that cops will at most make you move. ive had others ask me to see how its attached to make sure i wasnt hurting anything. most of the time just curious. i dont condone anything illegal obviously ,but fun is fun.

I have some Mule Tape. It's 5/8" wide, breaking strength of 1800lbs... ok for piers and concrete... If you're interested, just cover shipping...

I don't bother even sewing loops into the stuff, just tie an overhand loop, and MSH to my whoopies and I'm good. I've even used it speer-style, with one end larksheaded to the hammock, the other with a 4-wrap knot around a tree.

Not urban, but very concrete and public:

No obvious place to hang and stretch out on a long bike ride to and in Sandy Hook in NE NJ, but on the way back through the park around 7PM, I came on a first-aid station, snack bar and restaurant serving an ocean-side swimming area and beach. The only public left were some folks eating and drinking on an upstairs deck. Snack-bar was closed. Downstairs, the courtyard area included one of those 12 x 12 gazebo/ sunscreens with multiple joined 2x12s at the corners and an overhead nested structure of more spaced and slanted 2x12s bolted together with massive steel connectors.

The 7oz kit of GT Nano and recent but undersized Spectra suspension with soft shackles -- amateur rocketry buffs use the stuff -- fit nicely between two of the corners.

If old Neil Young from the restaurant bar and restaurant pleases, then the whole experience hanging there in an ocean breeze was pleasant. With such a lightweight kit, I did a lot of wondering about the mass of lumber that was overhead.
