    I can only hope my first DIY hammock comes out as nice. I've made a few non-hammock related things in the past - pool table cover, fleece dog sweater. I was thinking of hitting up a fabric store at lunch time today to see what they have for ripstop.
    John - can you tell us more about using a lighter to determine if something is nylon or polyester? What happens differently between them?

    Thanks guys! Hoping my tarp ends up as nice! Local fabric stores sell ripstop for like $8/yd. I got mine from backwoodsdaydreamer I think is his old website. New one is like diygear or something. Search the forum. I'm on my phone right now.

    Way better than my first try. And ditto to what gmcttr said. It takes more time, but looks way better, and is probably stronger.
