    Hex Tarp Doors

Thought this addition to my HH Sil Hex tarp may have some interest to some of you. They are made of Sil Nylon, sewn to the seam on the tarp, and secured at the bottom to the opposite corner by a bungee cord/clam-cleat arrangement. When not being used they roll up and tie with simple ribbons attached to the tarp seam. So far it appears they will do a good job of blocking the wind and (hopefully) keeping the rain off of my multi-hundred-dollar-800FP down quilts. And the hammock's occupant. I've also recently added zips to the HH Hyper-Lite bug net and a bungee/Prussik knot tensioner to the tarp's ridge line. Small improvements to keep life simple and more comfortable.

    That looks great, DTE.

I still want to put a set of doors on my tarp if I ever get the time.

Okay, you're holding out on us... where did you get the brown sil to make the doors from? (Looks great by the way.)

ah NCPatrick, that's a mirage. I thought the same thing looking at the first picture. But I think it is a trick of the light. The second picture tells me the doors are silver-grey.

Sad to say that the sil is actually grey...from Ed Speer. It's still pretty subdued, though. And these are actually the second set of doors I made for the tarp. The first set, which I did not attach, were made just to see if I could sew well enough to pull it off, and to see if the design was adequate. They were made from a brilliant lime green rip-stop! At first I had thought the color really wouldn't matter. Then I realized what a stupid thought that was! All that aside...I think these doors are really going to be a valuable addition. They do not add much of anything to the weight, but I think (and I have to admit that this is only speculation at this point) that they will prove themselves to be very serviceable and quite valuable. I've not tried them in the rain yet, but I have had them in some pretty strong, gusty winds (25-30 mph gusts?) and they've worked well. We'll see.

I like how you designed them so they totally overlap and how you keep them closed. A definite wind stopper.
