Where does your gear go? also, Porch Mode?

id like to learn some, as well as see peoples solution for gear storage. not specifically ridgeline organisers, but im talking your shoes/boots, pack etc.

since i have an eno and have surfed their page, they have this underbelly hammock/sling thing. be kinda neat for a dad and kid setup (depending on dinner...) but at that price i know i can make my own.

since i usually just have whatevers on me and in the backpack i can biner it to part of the suspension, socks over the boot tops and im good. but since im going to be relying more on the hammock to live, i need to figure out a "closet" of sorts while im camping..

also, i know what porch mode is, but how do you guys do it with the walking poles, and how can i if i dont have walking sticks? thanks!

you can use a gear hammock. Jacks r better sells em or you can make one to hang on your suspension. or I think ive seen some kinds of things hanging from the loops on the inside of tarps. but you could also tie your guylines to a tree if its close enough to make porch mode

If you are in the woods there should be no real problem finding a couple of sticks instead of walking poles. You might need to sharpen the ends or carry a couple of shoelace sized cords to tie them to the tarp.

If i'm out with a small backpack, i just clip it to my suspension - so nothing touch the ground. If i'm using a bigger pack, it stays right under me.

I also sharpen two sticks, that i place in the ground next to the hammock, to "hang" my shoes up side down on(no bug or splattered water in them). This keeps them easily accessible for nightly excursions.

For porch mode i just use sticks lying around. Then i run it over the top of the stick and double wrap the guy-lines around the stick to fixate it.

I hang my pack off one end of the hammock suspension. My boots are tied together and hang off the other end of the hammock suspension. For porch mode I use my trekking poles. I turn them upside down (handles to the ground) and stick the pointed end of the pole inside the D-Ring and pull my line tie-out from the D-Ring down to the ground stake. The downward tension of the tie-out line keeps the pole in place. This makes for an extremely quick and easy set-up. I can switch between porch modes and regular tarp pitching in seconds this way.

Here are a couple pics from earlier this week. I had my tarp pitched in porch mode and my gear box hung in trees next to me. My pack and extras were in the gear box. Everything I needed for the night was on the shelf of the WBBB. For porch mode I usually put the handle on the ground and the tips through a loop in the guy lines at the tarp. I have stuck the tips in the ground and wrapped the guy line around the handle of the poles too, but flipping them over is just easier.

    Hope this helps...

If you saw the 50 other pics I took to get a couple worth showing you would retract your nomination... (Thanks though)
The pics were taken on the west side of Strawberry reservoir. I was looking north towards the Uintas. There is no shortage of mountains with snow around me right now.

I used to hang my pack off of the end of my hammock, but it seemed to make the lay of the hammock less comfortable for me. I saw some gear hammock ideas on this forum so decided to make my own. I use it as a camp seat when I'm not sleeping with my pack S-Binered to my hammock. When I'm ready for bed, I sling the gear hammock off of the same tree huggers as the hammock so that it stretches above, put most of my gear in the gear hammock and clip the mostly empty pack to the end of that.

So far, works like a charm. I use my Wally-World trekking poles to hold up the front of the tarp in porch mode.

Here is the post that I did about my gear hammock:
