I've actually done that myself a time or two ... depends on what kinda dead fall is readily available. But does make for a handy set up!

Even before hammocking, I've always hung my pack from a tree trunk with a rain cover on it and the pockets open (to keep critters from nibbling through). Most of the time there's usually a stub left from where someone has stripped off a branch which makes a perfect little hook to hang the pack by its haul loop.

My boots/ camp shoes sit under the hammock, and smaller things like my water bottle, headlamp, fleece pullover, etc go in the shelf of the BB. Food Bag and "smellables" are bear bagged and hung.

As far as "porch mode", I have hiking poles, but you can also use local sticks, or tie off to a nearby tree, which I prefer.

I place mine on the ground under my hammock inside my pack cover. All pockets are open so critters don't try to gnaw through pack fabric. I used to hang it from the head end tree I was hanging from, but this just seems to be easier to me.

The pics were taken on the west side of Strawberry reservoir. I was looking north towards the Uintas. There is no shortage of mountains with snow around me right now.

I used to hang my pack off of the end of my hammock, but it seemed to make the lay of the hammock less comfortable for me. I saw some gear hammock ideas on this forum so decided to make my own. I use it as a camp seat when I'm not sleeping with my pack S-Binered to my hammock. When I'm ready for bed, I sling the gear hammock off of the same tree huggers as the hammock so that it stretches above, put most of my gear in the gear hammock and clip the mostly empty pack to the end of that.

So far, works like a charm. I use my Wally-World trekking poles to hold up the front of the tarp in porch mode.

Here is the post that I did about my gear hammock:

Yeah i think it has something to do with my OCD ... my house is very clean and neat everything needs to be in it's place or i can't sit still...
but when i get in the woods my OCD turns off LOL .... it's odd

when i first started backpacking when i was a teen i was the same way everything had a home and i packed everything nice and neat the night befor... but as i got older i got lazy in the woods LOL
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

If trekking poles aren't available, this is what I do. Longer guylines help get the angles better. Loop the guyline around a 4 or 5' long trailstick, shove the stick into the ground, pull guyline out and secure with a stake.

I’m yet to have a consistent method that I use.

The tripod is great; I use the spread method a bit….and hanging from a tree nearby works well too.

Yet to give hanging the pack from the head end a go

Here are some pic's of all of them, some with old "start-up" gear and some with new.
