Not that it would take the weight of a hammock stand but might be good for tarp ties on loose soil and lighter than a two-piece (stake and tube) stake, I thought of a single rod bent into a boom stake. Packing it would be the only issue I see.

This is an interesting concept too.

Roadrunnr72, our ground is so wet, I pushed 14 inch rebar into the ground with just my thumb yesterday. The normal booms wouldn't weeks ago. Not the design of the booms, but with the 14 inches of rain the last few weeks. Forecast is for 8 more days of off and on rain.

Looks like I need to look at the freestanding 2x4 stands until next year's dry spell.

These a few guys this side of the pond came up with a similar idea a while back and marketed it.

I have been using the nylon ones for years and they work really well. Just order 4 of the steel ones and gonna try them with my mobile setup.

Elegant! Almost too pretty to drive into the dirt.

First post and looking to get into a hammock soon. As a scoutmaster, I get the opportunity to camp all the time. I'm tired of sleeping on the ground. I need a treeless system for all the reasons Alamosa has already explained.

These look nice and the Delta 'ROCKS' looks like a manufactured version of what Alamosa built with his stake boom. I really like Alamosa's idea and would be in line to buy a set. Delta doesn't sell to US or Canada due to insurance.
Does anyone know of a source for a similar item?

    Thanks.

as I mentioned elsewhere (above?) The Claw can be disassembled for similar type stakes or if desired just get 4 claws and have a really good / solid ground anchor system that's easy to install/remove - see http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...2&postcount=12 for links

    Check your pole distances

Thanks to Alamosa for his stake boom idea! I bought a Claw and disassembled it and used some old REI 6' steel poles that come apart in three sections that were from an old rainfly. It works great. At first I kept popping the stakes out when I got in, but I realized my poles were too far apart, and thanks to Dejoha's Hammock Hang Calculator I realized my poles should be 14', not 17' so I tried that. It worked!

    Love this idea

If this has already been suggested I apologize.

Has anyone tried a folding boomstake using channel? Folding boom stake comp.jpg

That looks like a really good idea! With aluminum channel it would be way lighter than the Claw parts.
