    where to get a bridge

Hi all - newbie here, actually not even a newb yet. I am a UL hiker interested in trying hanging for the first time. I am definitely a stomach sleeper and it sounds like a bridge hammock would be my best bet to start out. My question is where does one get a bridge hammock? I am no good with a sewing machine and broaching that subject with my wife did not go well. JRB is currently out of them and the "Grizz" seems to be not making them for others anymore. Thoughts?

I mean im sure you could offer some money to some of the guys on here and if they have time to spare they could make you one. I believe dutch has a bridge he uses and I think hangnout uses a bridge. hmmmm I know there are more but I cant think of any off the top of my head.

    tdilf,
I am a stomach sleeper in a bed. But in the hammock I am extremely comfortable sleeping on my back or side.
Try a simple gathered end and see how it works for you. Or make it to a group hang and try out a bridge.

    Welcome.

If you want to try a HH I am not that far away. Not right next door... but I've been thru Pottstown before. Drop me an IM and we'll see what we can work out. I also have a DIY gathered end based on the ENO doublenest I could let you borrow if you want to check out a hammock for a couple of nights.

Come to think of it... I have a DIY bridge you could try out. But I only have one hammock stand.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

You could get a Eureka Chrysalis. It is disappointing that jrb and eureka are the only ones making bridge style hammocks.

I kind of thought the chrysalis was more like a clark with the spreader bars. but I guess now that I look at it it looks more like a bridge

Yeah I have seen a few people state that the Chrysalis isn't a true bridge. But as you said it looks pretty close.

I sleep on my side and stomach in a gathered end hammock without trouble. I role over now and then, which I wake up for, but other than that, I sleep fine.

If I had the room, I would offer to make you a Bridge hammock myself. Just to say I did it. I like to DIY and need a bigger room to work out of dang nab it!!

Since you are just getting started, try an in-expesnive gathered end or make one your self to see how it goes. I plan on having a bridge hammock at some point in the future myself, but it will take time and money for that to happen.

Good Luck and welcome to the forum!!

I can make you a Bridge. It will be just the body and suspension with no bugnet or end caps and you would have to order the spreader bars, but it would be a good way to see if you need a bridge. I would make it the same shape as my bridgeskin and that is shallow.

    Where to get a bridge

Rambinrev & Dutch -- thanks for the offers

I think my first move will be to try a gathered end hammock like a GT Ultralight or maybe a used WB Traveler - the price of admission on a gathered end hammock is less and if it works for me it will be lighter to hike with too. If a gathered end doesn't work then I will probably try a bridge (I will keep you in mind Dutch - you are not that far away). Thanks guys.
