    8x9 rectangular on asym?

My Equinox that is supposed to be 8x10 is just 8x9, which is not long enough when set up as an A. So can I set it up in a diamond set up? I tried it really quick last night and the coverage was good, but it didn't seem like it was going to lay properly. It was saggy on the RL.

A possible reason that the ridge was saggy is because the tarp is not cut/made perfect (but no tarp is really) the way to combat this is like Troy said but I would put the Continous Ridgeline under the tarp as this might give some structure to the ridgeline of the tarp! Not sure if it will get rid of the sag, but it might control it a little better????

It sounds a rectangle can be set up like a diamond, at least in theory. I was using a CRL, although in this set up it is on top. It doesn't matter that the tarp is not trapezoidal? (It's been a long time since geometry or trig or whatever.) I suppose coverage (other than length) could be tricky.

Try the CRL underneath the tarp. You may never get every wrinkle out, but it should help.

A non-rectangular tarp can be aligned with your diagonal lay in the hammock, so that is an advantage. However, a rectangular/diamond pitched tarp is better than no tarp. If it can be pitched low enough, it may give adequate coverage.

Try it in the rain and see what happens (hopefully at home first).

I'm not having good luck with tarps yet. My GG leaked and this Equinox is smaller than advertised, so if it is likely to be a significant compromise just to make it work, I would rather return it and get something that is right, even if more expensive. If the 8x9 Equinox will work easily as long as I sleep on a diagonal, I'll probably go with it.

Did I measure right? 17' ridgeline on the diagonal? Sounds like plenty of length and coverage.

I would go 11x11 personally but there wasn't anything really wrong in those pictures other that the hammock is slung way to low for my taste.

Gear perfection shouldn't be the goal over enjoying the outdoors. Now leaky tarps on the other hand should be beaten before water proofing!

I posted photos on the GG thread. It appeared to be leaking through the fabric, but yes, I did seal the seam.
