This is awesome... I am already making a list though of what to do on my next one... The main thing I am thinking about is a different cut. I seem to have a lot of excess on the sides and wonder how this will come in to play when attaching a bugnet...

Really you could still try the whipping method and see if that works better for what you want to do. The nice thing about whipping the ends is that you can pull the outer edges tighter while leaving the center a little bit looser. I tend to like that a little better. I like having the tighter sides, provided they aren't too tight. And if you don't like the way it lays, just undo the whipping and redo it, or go back to the way you have it now. :-)

Nice work. Your "own" is always good.

I usually pull the corners a little to tighten the head side and leave the foot side loose.

It only takes a minute or two to change the whipping (once you've done it a time or two). Try it several ways to see what effect different "pulls" have.

Method #2 from this link, is the way I have whipped rope ends, and now hammocks since I was a young'un. Leave the ends long and it is easy to undo and use the same cord over. I just realized it is the same method as in Just Jeff's link posted earlier.
