I've left my car at some of the SHT parking lots and didn't have to get any permits at all. Best part of the SHT is how cheap it is!
It is a bit funny how close you are to everything. Last month my buddy and I did a few day hike around HWY 1 and he was able to check his voicemail to make sure he got cut from work.
We just did part of that section this past week.

I climbed to the top of the cliffs over Bean lake and called the girlfriend too. lol

You're more than welcome to join us if you can get the time off work. Just keep me posted and we'll make it work.

I also made my spot gps tracking available to this forum hope it helped.
There is a mountain range in there. However, it's not too bad. I just hiked the hardest section of the trail this past week with Mr Green, Grizzly Adams and his sons.

I do hike 5-6 days a week though. So, I get a lot of exercise.

I didn't get to check your Spot because we apparently both were out on the trail at the same time. Looking forward to your report man. Glad you made it back ok.

Well, I will know for sure tomorrow. But, it looks like August 5th will be the start of our thru-hiking adventure on the SHT starting at Otter Lake Road. Only 3 more weeks to go until we kick start this into high gear. Anyone want to tag along for part of it. You're more than welcome too. Regardless, this is going to be a blast!

Thanks man. It's going to be so much fun. I'll throw up my SPOT link before I go too.

I know what you mean. That trail is always calling us.

[QUOTE=Fronkey;486730]I just finished watching all 3 parts and those were excellent. Man, I really thought that kid was going to break but he killed it in the end and he really did some crazy miles. 28 in one day is just awesome.
I'm going to do some extra scouting and research when i'm up there in a couple weeks too.

Thanks a lot for the link. These really do help me out.

Shawn, was an eagle scout from our Boy Scout troop. Funny thing is, he hated hiking when he was a scout.

Does anyone have any suggestions to some really great campsites on the trail? I really want to camp at the Bean Lake site again and was curious if there were anymore awesome ones to hang my hammock.

    From north to south...

The three along the Little Brule.
    Kundunce River
    East or West Devil Track
    Big White Pine
    East or West Lake Agnes
    Rollins Creek
Any of the Cross River especially the Falls !
    East Caribou
Off the SHT along the Manitou River in Crosby-Manitou SP
    North Egge
    Leskin Creek
    Bear Lake (of course)
    North and South Beaver River
    South East Split Rock River

Now most of the sites along the SHT are nice sites(good for hanging) these are just some of my favorites.
