    what to do with stuff???

Last night I did my second hang (back yard hang) I wanted to test my ability to hang this thing in the pouring down rain. I had no issue with that other than hanging it a little low almost on the ground. It stopped raining as soon as I got it put up. I was down to 30 and I stayed pretty warm and dry.
While laying there thinking about how I could pull this off in the rain I got to wondering what do I do with my pack and all my stuff. I had a pure mud pile under me. I guess I could lay every thing on my pancho while I got my sleeping gear in the hammock. but what about getting out of the hammock without getting your feet wet?
I know that this sounds like dumb stuff but I figure I would get it through trial and error, but I thought I could get ya'lls trials and errors so I would be as comfy as possible.

    Thanks ahead of time.

You can use a Just Jeff gear hammock/pack cover from Jacksrbetter. I sometimes carry a small tyvek groundcloth if I know that it is going to rain a lot. Others tie thier packs to their webbing, and make sure that it is under the tarp. There are a lot of different ways, play around, and find what works best for you.

I've been playing around with a second DIY lightweight hammock strung below my Clark or my DD as a kind of a gear loft, only below me instead of above me. It's basically a leftover 9' piece of 1.1 oz ripstop that I suspend from my strapping. I'm also working on another option that hopefully will be posted soon.

I clip my pack to one end of the hammock at the tree (I use the biners and descending rings), secure the hip belt around the tree and put the rain cover over the top. My pack is mostly empty anyway.

Either I lay my pack on the ground with the pack cover on, clip it to on of the trees, or if its pretty empty, to the support ropes on the hammock itself.

I have a garbage bag that I put my pack into at night if it is pouring but usually my pack cover will be good enough. If it is raining so hard there is a puddle under you, you are not going to keep your feet dry that day so I don't worry about my feet. Just have some campshoes ready.

I normally hang my pack off the head of my hammock and I put extra gear inside my pack. I have seen some people (Hooch I think) who hangs their pack from a tree and then wraps their rain jacket around everything.

Check out Jeff's instructions on making the All-In-One gear hammock/pack cover.

I hang the mostly empty pack from the caribiner attached to the hammock. That way it's off the ground and under the tarp in case of rain. I keep my feet dry when I get out of the hammock by putting my shoes on sitting in the hammock.

I had a combo sit pad/door mat made from 2 pieces of blue ccf sewn into some tarp material. It folds in half and is the right size to also serve as a back support inside my pack. I use that to stand on getting in and out of my hammock, putting on/taking off my shoes, etc. I can also use it as a cushion to sit on around the campfire.
    Peace,
    Joe

not a dumb question at all. it can be a challenge keeping your stuff reasonably dry & clean when you're getting in & out of the hammock, especially if you find yourself hanging in a less than ideal wet/muddy spot.

i would just suggest the same things that the others already have. you just need to decide on a way to protect your stuff whether it's hanging it next to the hammock in a gear loft or covering it & hanging it from a tree or have it on the ground in/on a trash bag as mentioned.

i prefer having my stuff hanging from the hammock, under the tarp.
i've been using the "storage end covers" for a while now & i really like them.
i hope to have an improved version ready soon.

also, i use both ends of my long hammock for storage. i hope to have an improved version of that ready soon too.
