Unhappy Newbie accident - need repair advice

I had my first experience in a Skeeter Beeter pro this weekend. While attempting to adjust-try-adjust-try I put my left hand on the opposite side fabric as I swung in – yes, I know, BIG mistake. One moment I’m getting into the hammock, the next moment I’m face planted in the rocks under my hammock, with the netting under me. I now have two 2-inch holes in the no-see-um netting. And where the zipper attaches to the hammock, the zipper is ripped out about a foot, and the no-see-um is ripped for about a foot, starting right at the zipper.

Has anyone had luck sewing patches of no-see-um over holes in the netting? I found places online to order a yard of the no-see-um, but now sure exactly how one would sew it. Or should I just get small pieces of parachute-like fabric, and sew an inside-outside piece over the holes and rips, and let it go at that?

No-seeum sews to itself pretty easy. I would just sew a patch of no-seeum on and let it go! I havent patched any holes but have sewn a good bit of no-seeum. And for the rips along the zipper you should just beable to resew those to the zipper.

Didn't think about pictures, I'll try to get some tonight and update the post.

I'll also order some no-see-um and get it headed my way. Good to hear it can be sewn like other material. I repaired the abraisions and bruises on my knee, shoulder and head - just need to fix the hammock now

Oh man - that really sucks! Glad you weren't too badly injured!
But it sounds like you've already got a good idea on how to fix it all up!
Would love to see the pics of the before and after the repair!

Wounds heal and 'chicks dig scars'. And if no one saw it happen..., not too humiliating.

Unfortunately, my hiking buddy was standing right next to the hammock. So the humiliation factor was pretty high. I'll never live it down. I hate when I do stupid things.

On a linear tear where you are not missing fabric I just pin the edges together w/ minimal overlap and then bind them together with a wide zigzag stitch using a very short stitch length. It will tighten the netting slightly but should not be a problem...

Good luck and tears are like scars - it shows you use your gear and gives you a story to tell (although in the future the story should involve a bear or other cool reason the tear happened)...
