Protect hammock fabric from sleeping bag zippers

Unless there is a simple, expedient method, I'm just going to zip myself up and put duct tape over the zipper of my sleeping bag. Last night, I woke up to find teeny tiny tears (more like dents) in my hammock from my sleeping bag zipper.

What can I do to use my sleeping bag but protect my hammock as well?

Thanks and I hope you guys cut my newbie-azz some slack for my silly questions.

You can cut the zipper off and make a TQ out of it....perfect for the hammock life.

I just picked up an old (1949) military down center zip sleeping bag at the flea market just for this reason. I am always afraid i am going to get the zipper caught on my hammock. Luckily so far i have not. And with the center zip bag i am pretty sure i won/t have that worry anymore.

If you are referring to the zipper pull, you could try heat shrink tube. If you are talking about the teeth, I have no idea!

    Material and weight?

What material and material weight is your hammock made out of? Also can you elaborate on the zipper kind and size of teeth?

Material is polyester taffeta (GT ultralight) and the zipper is metal. I don't know what size the teeth are, but it looks like the zipper was what was causing the dents so I don't think the teeth are the problem.

I think I'll try the heat shrink today and maybe some duct tape as last night was a P.I.T.A trying to get comfortable with just a blanket underneath me.

    Thanks

Here's what a mummy bag looks like when you remove the zipper....

So I turned the sleeping bag 90 degrees so the zipper was in the center. It worked fine. doh... but that Mummy bag looks slick. I'm seeing that one of the issues with the sleeping bag is it's barely long enough. It sometimes slides down past my neck towards my feet and then my neck gets cold. You just slide your head in that top part of the mummy bag?
