    Your Winter Campout Setup?

With the date of the winter campout fast approaching I thought it would be fun and educational to some (me included) to know what kind of hammock, tarp, sleeping bags, quilts, pad(s) and insulation that you will be using on the campout.

    Guidelines:
    1. This does not include any gear that you are bringing for others to use, only the gear you yourself will be using.

    2. We don't really know what the weather is going to be like so be sure to give temperature range you are shooting for and any other gear you would add in extreme cold.

    3. I know some people who want to come won't be able to make it, so if you WERE coming to the campout what would you bring?

My Setup (for temps down to 20 degrees):

    Hammock
    Hennessy Hammock ULBA

    Tarp
    Gear Guide 9x9

    Outside Insulation:
    UL JRB Nest
UL JRB No Sniveller (also as underquilt)*
    DIY Top Cover

    Inside Insulation:
Western Mountaineering Apache SMF 15 degree sleeping bag
    WalMart Blue CCF Pad*
1/8" Ultralight CCF pad (3/4 length)*

    * denotes items that would be used for temps lower that 20 degrees

    EDIT:
I will probably wear some mid-weight poly/wool thermals, fleece socks and a fleece cap, adding extra thermals or a fleece pullover if needed. I can't sleep well with tons of clothes on; it bothers me. I will probably start with the bare minimum and add items as needed.

Just got my JRB three season setup. So here is what I plan on bringing. If I need more, let me know:

    JRB Nest
JRB No Sniveler (Also as an underquilt)
JRB Weather Shield Set (Top and Bottom)
Kelty Lightyear 25 degree down bag (Used as top quilt)
    MacCat Deluxe Tarp
    HH UL Explorer Asym

I plan on wearing a medium weight set of capilene long johns a watch cap, and baklava.

I have extra clothing in my pack that I can add if Im still chilled.

I am a warm to average sleeper.

This will be my first experience with the JRB set. I camped in Linville Gorge Wilderness Area in November where the temps were 18 that night. I stayed in my HH most of the night with only my Kelty bag listed above.

    Black Cat tarp
Marmot 15* synthetic bag (top quilt)
    Speer SPE
    1" thermarest (3/4 length)
    3/8" walmart blue pad

I may make my own top quilt between now and then. I may also make top cover like headchange's...looks like a good idea.

I'd love to have an underquilt by then, but it's not working out at the moment...

For temps under 20 (hopefully I will be able to test into single digits, I missed the last cold snap):

    DIY hammock
    McCat Deluxe Tarp
    JRB nest
    WM pad (maybe cut down)
    DIY ripstop hammock sock
Montbell Super Strech #2 bag (approx 20 degree)

    Wearing:
    wool socks
Montbell thermawrap pants (yet to be added)
    smartwool longsleeve top
    OR windproof hat (if needed)
    OR windprrof mittems (if needed)
MEC Northern Lite Jacket used as pillow/head cover, or worn if needed

Good thread idea. I was thinking about starting something like this.

Haven't really made up my mind yet, but here's what I'm thinking...

23 oz - Insulated hammock w/ supports (hoping to test it to 20F)
21 oz - JRB NS top quilt
31 oz - PeaPod for when it gets below 20F
5 oz - 1/4" torso CCF pad as leg insulation for insulated hammock and sit pad
15 oz - MacCat Standard, stakes, line

95 oz total - ~6 lbs and should easily keep me toasty in single digits, I reckon

But I'm also considering something like...
    - Uninsulated homemade Speer-type
    - Exped DAM
    - TravelPod
    - Top Quilt or 0F bag

Not to hi-jack this thread, but how would your lists change if you were having to carry all of this on a long distance hike where you might encounter single-digit temps but you had to take your weight into consideration?

If you decide to list your gear again for my question, I think it would be cool to quote your original post and then list your gear changes in your new post, so it's easy to compare....just a thought.

Returning to thread.... and answer Michele's diversion, mostly it will be a matter of send things home based on trail location and season.... then getting it mailed back as you get to NH.... FWIW, early NOBOs are advised to keep winter gear until passed Mt Rogers.

Now for the winter Hang on Mt Rogers Here is my plan.

    Mosquito hammock 26 oz
JRB Tarp w STL 10 oz
    Nest as UQ 20 oz
No Sniveller as UQ 20 oz
Old Rag Mtn as TQ 24 oz
    Suspension System 1 oz
Sub total 101 oz or 6.3 lbs

    Sleep clothes
    Wool LJB ~12 oz
    Wool LJT ~11 oz
    Smartwool Socks ~ 3 oz
    Fleece Balaclava ~ 2 oz
    Down Hood 2 oz
Down sleeves as leg and foot covers 5 oz
Total worn ~ 35 oz or 2.2 lbs

    Back up, if necessary.
    JRB WS Bottom 9.5 oz
    JRB WS top 9.5 oz
1/4 full length JRB Pad Converter 5.3 oz
( New item, check it out)
Montbell thermo wrap jacket 10.2 oz
    Possum down gloves 1.5 oz
OR mitten shells ~ 6 oz
    montbell wind pants 2.4 oz
Dri ducks rain suit 9.5 oz
Total back up ~53.9 or 3.4 lbs

This should be toasty to below zero if necessary.
Note...Some items are brought as much for you all to check them out first hand as to be back up... ie the WS T&B, and the new PC.
