I got to try the braided masons line this weekend. While it tangles if not careful it worked well for the lines tied to the ground/tent stakes.

I am probably going to order some dynaglige for tying down the ridgeline and make some of those setups in Dutchs video.

It was a monsoon again during this weekends trip. I was the driest this morning in my jeep club. The masons line seemed to start sagging on the ridgeline last night. I think we had about 1 to 2 inches of rain in an hour though. My hammock was dry throughout the night and that was with the superflys doors opened.

Watching everyone going to bed in tents with so much water on the ground during the storm made me wonder why it took me so long to get a hammock.

I have a lot of balsam fir, red spruce and hemlocks around my hiking spots and definitely noticed the same thing you did. I figured that if the wind is not blowing, the chance of a limb drop is small (although always there). I figure I took a bigger risk driving to the trailhead.

I do tend to be cautious when tenting or hanging around red spruce though. They can have rather shallow roots especially along rock ledges. I doubt that I would want to hang in one located along a rock ledge (wonder how easy it would be to uproot one by hanging from it) and I would be cautious pitching a tent too. Last nights hang was from a hemlock (head end) and a small white oak. Nice
