    Open Bottom Tulle Bug Net

Inspired by the jspate61 and PapaSmurf designs, I made another open bottom bug net.

It is made out of tulle from PapaSmurf to keep it light at ~3oz. Admittedly, this fabric is more delicate than no-see-um or mosquito net and will take extra care in handling. The pay off is the low weight, it doesn't block the breeze and the much better visibility through it.

That is a great looking setup. I have always had a time with tulle. I never can get it to look right. So again kudos on the net!

Thanks. It looks even better from the inside out. Almost like there is no netting at all.

Thanks. It started as a bug sock style net (and I ripped it once when the thread jammed). That didn't hang right and was in my face (too long I think). I cut it up to make the open bottom and promptly put the omni-tape-to-whoopie sling-seal on the wrong corner. Spent some time using fowl language before I put the seam ripper to work. It was one of those projects that just did not want to cooperate.

Sweet net. I hate working tulle. I ALWAYS mess it up.

Wow, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that hates to sew that stuff.

I was surprised that stitching it with my cheap Singer went well. It was everything else that I had trouble with. I hope that didn't jinx me.

How has this held up for you? Did you use a single piece of tulle folded lengthwise, or did you have to seam two pieces together? Any other comments?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Did you add any weights to the bottom. I find that a little wind really affects my use with tulle or chiffon.

So far so good. You can't be rough with the tulle though. The tulle was 108" wide and folded over. I bought it from Papa Smurf. You can also get it here.

No weights added. The shock cord keeps it under control.
