Conecuh National Forest in Andalusia is a good place, it's my weekend spot. Two large lakes in the forest, one has a beach on it. Nice creek and one large natural spring that spews cool water. Probably 35 miles of very nice trails, research Conecuh Loop. There'e primitive camping and developed sites on the lake, and trail camping wherever you want. Plenty of trees. Probably an hour and 15 minutes from mobile, just go north on 65 to hwy 84. Take a right onto 84 and it goes straight to Andalusia. Then turn onto 29 south for a few miles and you're there.
I'd be up for something when it cools off a bit.
I just did an overnite on the Chinnabee Silent Trail in NE Ala. I realize that this isn't central or southern Alabama, but I thought I would respond in regard to temperature! It was hot but for me not unbearably so!
I've been recovering from the flu or bronchitis which kept me from going on my scheduled hike on the AT so I just wanted to do a low mileage hike. I camped just above Cheaha Falls so round trip it was just under 7 miles.
It was my first time in this area and I loved it. Just wish it was a little closer to home! From where I live in Starkville, Ms. it was about a 3 1/2 hr drive, but well worth it!
Give me a shout next time you get ready for a hangin' adventure..........I am in Starkvegas also. From where I live in Starkville, Ms
