    Amsteel Question

I originally bought some whoopie slings / continuous loops from JRB and they work great. I modified the continuous loops into nacrabiners.

Now I want another set of slings / loops for another hammock. I bought some Amsteel Blue from Redden but it appears to be slightly different that the Amsteel from JRB.

The difference is that the Redden Amsteel has 2 extra fibers in the center. One red and one green. Is this normal? It really makes splicing difficult. Can I just pull it out or is it necessary ?

The fibers are an anticounterfit measure and you can just pull them out.

You should be able to pull them out of the core, then splice as normal. What size amsteel is it? Make sure that there is a large enough safety margin...you don't want to end up sitting on the ground when you didn't mean to.

Removal...That's the answer I was hoping for. The Amsteel is 7/64 so it should be fine for my not-so-svelte 225

I had 200 ft. of the green that contained that core piece. It is incredibly strong, wish I could find a use for it. I just pull it out, a bit of a challenge with really long pieces.

Save it to use as unlock pulls with your soft shackles. Or extra strong emergency thread.

Great ideas, specially the soft shackle pull outs, helps my stubby fingers.

Could you use it as thread to lock your bury in place?
If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.
