40˚ bag in combo with a Sea to Summit Reactor liner

I was thinking about modding the Lafuma Simple Use 600 Sleeping Bag, which is rated for 40˚ and using it in combination with a Sea to Summit Reactor Plus Thermolite Compact Liner which is supposed to add another 20˚ of perceived warmth.
I was hoping to get down in the low 30's with this setup. Does this seem feasible? It would keep my top insulation below 2 lbs which would be great. I could also supplement with some extra clothing as well.
Just wanted some opinions from the experts.

    Thanks.

    Bag

The review at REI seems to agree?

Might work to low 30's. I have the same liner and it adds noticeable warmth. The +20 degree rating on the liner may be a bit overly optimistic though. It's very thin material...similar to a synthetic t- shirt base layer.

I was also considering the Thermolite Reactor Extreme which says it adds an additional 25˚ of warmth. I would hope it would actually give me 15˚ ish of actual warmth.
My hope is to pair this type of system with some merino wool base layer and possibly a woolie and the wool socks for the next day.
I am still working on a diy UQ But if I could keep my sleep system, not including hammock gear, down below or around 4lbs for the above temp range I would be a happy camper. Then in the spring I could possibly pull off just using the bag and a 2.5 XP UQ.

Getting in a bag liner in a hammock is going to be a pain. Especially at night when you have to get up and get back in it in the dark. Wedgies and cuss words will occur.

I would caution you slightly if you don't already have the lafuma bag that it is not a true 40 degree bag. They rate it at comfort at 52 degrees, transition at 45 degrees and risk at 23 degrees. I'm not sure how the 40 degree rating plays into that, but lafuma is famous for optimistic ratings. I used it last weekend in the mid 50s with shorts and a t-shirt and was perfectly comfortable using it as a top quilt. If you're a warmer sleeper, you'll probably be fine with this combo. I would just say that combining two things that have fairly optimistic ratings might leave you a bit chilled. I'll add too though that for the money that bag is excellent and I plan to purchase/make a liner for it to extend it's rating as well. If you are able to get low 30's with that combo please post it here because that would be great to know!

I would mod it to be more like a TQ.

Yep, I figure I will test in in the backyard first but I can always supplement with the proper clothes and a hot nalogene bottle.

Well if you mod it, I think it would be fine. I had a gear store friend of mine who sells that same liner tell me once that a big part of staying warm is keeping moisture away from your skin, which that liner is good at doing. It wicks away any moisture on your skin that would otherwise cool you down.

IMO sleeping bags are best used as TQ's in a hammock. I can not see my self trying to use a sleeping as a sleeping bag in a hammock.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Gunner76 I totally agree with you. I was planning on doing the same mod as another member here did to theirs and create a TQ out of it.
That being said, I have had a change of plans due to the sleeping bag sale REI had going on. Landed a 30˚ down REI bag for $81. Sweet deal. So now I can mod it and go with a lighter liner.
