3/4 or Full Length UQ Which is Best?

I want to buy a 3 season UQ. Should I get a 3/4 or a full length.

I all depends on what you want. Lightweight? Go with a 2/3 or 3/4's. Ease of use? Go with the full length. You will need a pad to go under your feet with the partial length underquilt. I love my potomac. But it is big and bulky(compressed). So I am looking to buy a 2/3's.

Really also depends on when and where you hike. For the many changes in conditions for me, I was lucky enough to have one of both (summer phoenix and 3 season incubator). However, I do find the incubator to be very versatile.

If you are a hiker and want lighter weight and less real estate taken up in your pack 3/4 or 2/3.

If you car camp and dont care about weight or volume taken in your pack... full length.

Depends on if you are a cold sleeper or warmer sleeper ... and where you plan to use it. If you plan on using it in NC ... where I am ... a 3/4 Crow's Nest (Now called the Phoenix) by www.hammockgear.com in the 3 season model is a work of art and keeps me nice and toasty down to the mid 20's with the proper top quilt. Easy to use, easy to vent and packs nice and compact.

To me ... it's the perfect option for the most variables in NC ... a full length for me would only be a winter quilt. And they make a might fine one of those too.

Another thing to consider is are you a cold or a hot sleeper? I happen to be a cold sleeper, which means the only time I can use a 2/3 UQ is in the summer. All other times, it has to be a full size or I either freeze or have to take so much other crap to keep warm, it isn't worth it. Good luck!

I find my 2/3's quilt makes asym laying easier. My body kinda stays in one spot in the quilt while my legs are free to do whatever since the quilt stops at my butt. It does kinda get cool in the leg area in cold weather though. I just deal with it.

3/4 if you do most of your hiking in NC. i use 3/4 all year round in PA

I just bought a 3 season Incubator from Hammockgear. Since I'm trying to maximize sleeping comfort when using a hammock, I opted for full-length. A couple more oz of pack weight for sure, but I'm not regretting it a bit. Less fiddle-factor and greater insulating area. I can wiggle any ol way I want and still be warm.

i'm 5'8"


if i were to do it again.. i'd have stormcrow build me a custom - something like 64" long. that would about cover me entirely.

i don't mind the pad.. but i prefer less fiddle factor, even in the shoulder season, and as a backpacker.
