Moving and Deletion of Theads - what are the rules around here?

This is getting to be a miserable forum.

If I post a positive experience with an REI Inflatable pillow for side-sleeping in a hammock, the thread gets deleted.

If somebody asks about pack weight for hammocker's - the thread gets deleted.

If somebody asks about prussik knots - the thread gets moved to a less-than intuitive area.

So what the heck is "General Hammock Talk"?

I'm finding this vaunted "Hammock Forums" to be a bit over-moderated.

Personally I like the over moderation. It is one of the reasons why this forum has remained civil for so long, whereas other forums are a nightmare. I think the mods are a little overwhelmed at this point with the influx of new members, but are still doing a great job.

Those threads aren't getting deleted, they're getting moved to the appropriate forum in the off-topic, donating member's forums.

Agreed if it is not specifcally hammock related it gets pushed over in the off topic donating member section.

It happened to me... I paid the annual $10 and now I'm a happy camper.

If I remember correctly the rules are clearly explained in the Terms of Use.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I agree with Mancat, the over moderation helps to keep it civil and organized. If you would like to talk about things other than hammocks/tarps/UQ's etc you can donate $10 and have access to the off topic/donating members section. There's tons of really good info in there and the 10 bucks is nothing in comparison to how much cash/headache this forum has saved you.

This thread needs to be deleted in my opinion.

I can understand your frustration dla. I was caught by surprise when it happened to me. I made a thread, then suddenly a couple hours later I couldn't access it. It took me a bit to figure out what happened. With the valuable information I have gained from the forums, I decided to pony up the $10 to gain access to the whole site.

It would be nice if these policies were more clear upon sign up. Maybe the user getting a note as to why the thread was moved would cut down the frustration. Just a thought.

I'm on another forum that has over 20000 users. It can be out of hand at times with bad language, rude behavior, etc. It's refreshing to come here where conversations remain civil and the mods keep things on topic as much as they can.
