Tyvek doesn't fray... I've never put a hem on it, It's pretty stable stuff.

The only question is how you put tie-outs on it. Most use the penny/pebble and larkshead trick, but it doesn't make for a quick setup...

There are at least three tarp clips / cups that do not pierce the material. We'd like to see a review comparing them.

They aren't expensive, say $1-$2 each for clips that would be suitable for tents and flys our size. All removable and re-usable.

Then, just for Tyvek, there's DuPont's own formulated tape for Tyvek house wrap. I haven't come across a complaint against it in hours of arm-chair camping.

If you put your Tyvek items through a wash cycle, (no soap) it won't be stiff, it will be pliable, and, the process will not change the water repellency.

Do NOT put it in a dryer.

I tried some simple tarp clips that are just clamps. They slipped.

I agree that the tyvek tape is amazing stuff... Tyvek delaminates before the tape gives up. For making seams, I've used carpet tape, it works better than 1 layer of tyvek tape...

What I take to be the most serious tarp clips are the ones from the outfit that designed or exclusively licensed them for their various shelter systems.

They recognize the problem you had, and have some illustrations of their DIY solution: inexpensive balloons as adhesive backers / filler . I suppose latex rubber glove material, cut up, might work, too, though such gloves are short in the market.

Realistically grosgain ribbon is lighter than and tarp clip solution and won't slip. If you're concerned about those fractions of anounce.

I've seen those... they do work great. There's a DIY thread here somewhere that somebody suggested using plastic chain and buttons. I rubberized some plastic chain links with Plasti-Dip, used quarter sized plastic buttons. They worked, and were cheap!

    Great Discussion!

No matter and no soap. But why waste energy heating water when you are not trying to mix or dissolve anything? You are just using tumbling or agitation to bend the fibers / flakes to make them more supple.

You're not taking the starch out of it. There is none. You're just taking the press out of it. Like you and a badly hung hammock do to your tuxedo pants when the three of you spend the night together tossing and turning.
