    Pillow Question

I am wanting to get a pillow for my hammock. I have tried a couple of inflatable ones and I really like how small they pack down (which is something I am looking for) but they just are not very comfortable. I have looked at a couple of down stuffed ones but they all seem to compress so much when you put your head on them that there is not much left. For those of you that have the one from Hammock Gear what is your impression of them? I have a few items ordered from the Father's Day Sale and was thinking of adding a pillow to the order.

I think it is very nice - soft - but not to soft. It does indeed compress when your head is on the pillow but IMO it's just perfect.

If you are worried about support contact HammockGear and ask for some overfill, i'm sure they'll be happy to help you out.

I'm going to make one out of ome spare fleece I have laying around. It will just be a bag where I will stuff some clothes at night.

I used my thermarest compressable pillow today and I love it! http://www.rei.com/product/719843/th...:referralID=NA
The fabric has 2 sides, one for cold and one for hot weather. It squeezes down fairly small and lofts back up quickly and stays firm-ish... I wouldn't want a different pillow for camping (so far). I have a medium and it fits well in the shelf of my WBBB when I am lounging.

I don't know anything about the pillow from Hammock Gear, but I looked for a long time and tried a lot of different ones, looking for that perfect pillow.
I bought the "Bear Pillow" from AHE about two years ago and stopped looking.

I have seen the Thermarest pillow at REI and did like it but it just does not pack down small enough.

I have looked at the Bear Pillow also but will still worried about how much it would compress when you laid your head down on it. Also since I had an order in with Hammock Gear I would save on shipping. Besides I am a big fan of their products.

I just got a pillow from Blackrockgear.com. It is very comfortable test hanging at the house but I haven't had it on the trail yet.

I have the Hammock Gear pillow and I like it a lot. Just the right size for me. It seems to work best for me tucked behind my head. I have tried a couple other pillows in my hammock but they were too bulky. I'm not sure how this smaller more compressible pillow will translate to sleeping on my roll-a-cot when I sometimes have to be a tent dweller. I'll try it out with the cot next weekend when I go camping with my church youth group in Moab (desert, no trees, commercial campground = tent).

i did some of the prototype testing for the blackrockgear pillow and i initially thought it needed way more down. but after a few test runs of actual sleeping, turns out the amount of support needed in a gathered end hammock (for me) is not really that much. the pillow does a great job of giving a tad bit of support on the neck and the side of my face that is tilting (like that makes sense )

i'm sure stormcrow's is similar to the blackrock (except the stormcrow has 1 ounce more down in it, and the blackrock has a super smooth fabric on the face of it that is different than the nylon it looks like stormcrow is using).

i'm certain either option would be awesome. and both would likely retain high resale value on this site. good luck...
