Nice trip report LD thanks for sharing! Really liked the pics at the look out, on the other hand the Hilton was a bit creepy.

Glad you got to do do some healthy gear testing.

That looks like a fun, productive (gear testing) trip. Glad you're getting to know your mountain. Thanks for sharing.

Looked like a nice trip to test that packa of yours. I got caught in the same storm fishing this weekend. Made for an interesting hike down the mountain back to the car.

Very nice report Cakes. I'll have to make it over there soon. I might have to pass on the Holston Hilton though!

Glad you liked the overlook shots. I've been going up to Flint Mill Gap overlook for the past 17 or 18 years. Have only seen one person at the top in all those years who made it on foot. The shortcut is only 2 miles but it's straight up the ridge with some climbing and a lot of scrambling involved! The way we came in this time was from the ridge. Longer but much easier!

Learned a lot about where to tweek my gear from water filtration to rain gear. That mountain has many hidden spots and I've been trying to find all the secrets of her since I was 17!

The Packa is superb I just need something for my legs! But found that a Bush Buddy can dry socks!

I hope you do get to visit here. The diversity of the foliage is a special feature of the Holston...and so are the Good Ol Boy's! But seriously....Most are just simple good mtn folk though, that would give the shirts off their back if you needed it.

Thanks but I can't take all the credit for the pics. Kim shared hers with me to make the report complete.

I wish I could have captured the storm when we were on the High Point. But I was too busy ducking for cover! I love weather and that was truly exciting!

Besides my Packa, the other piece of gear that performed well was my OES Macat Ultra. It kept everything dry and I had room to spare! I hope you can make the next one, I'm looking forward to the fall colors.
