    Question Need Slap Strap Measurements

I'm planning on using some paracord I have to make a homemade SlapStrap Pro system. The only issue is I want it to be incredibly similar to the original. I'm planning on using a bowline knot for the end and then alpine butterfly knots for the securing loops. I just have two questions.

    1) should this plan (550 lb. 7-Strand Type III Paracord) be strong enough? will the multiple knots weaken the rope any and do i have good ideas for the knots or are there better knots to use and

    2) what are the measurements
[a] between each of the securing loops
[b] between the end loop and the first securing loop
    [c] total length when finished

A picture diagram of these would be awesome (if my requirements are a little oddly worded)
EDIT: Or if i just am a terrible person and am clueless about the setup of the slap strap system

Me and all the Cheap-O's of the world thank you

Don't use paracord. If it doesn't break, which is highly likely, the stretch will mean you end up on the ground.

The better option is go to Wal-Mart/Lowes/Home Depot/what ever store you like and pick up some 1inch tie down straps rated to 1000+ lbs, remove the hardware and tie a figure 8 in one end and a marlin spike hitch in the other. Shouldn't run you more than $15. And you won't have any sudden understandings of gravity's effect on a falling object, or wake up on the ground.

Well one thing for sure is the paracord will stretch and you may find yourself on the ground. And secondly the paracord will bite into the tree. Straps are used to protect the tree, like the straps on a tree stand does. Have you thought of using some old ratchet straps and take off all the hardware?

Well in any case you were wise not to buy the ENO Slap Straps. They stretch too because they are made of nylon! Make sure you use polyester straps and you'll be happy.

I have 6 foot straps...have you watched any of Shug's Videos yet on suspension?

heres what i have on mine.

from the SEWN portion (basically where your knot will be) of the big loop (im measuring the gap that wraps around the tree) theres 55"

the loops alternate sides of the strap, but in between the 2 is 15" and im measuring from the center of each loop.

theres 115" of length from the base of the big loop to the base of the bottom end loop. kinda like this

    I---------55------I--15--I-15--I-15--I
    X-------------------x-------x------x------x
    I--------------------115------------------I

but wouldnt it be easier to just tye a knot where you need it when the time comes instead of pre making it and being stuck with those lengths? i know theres some company out there that sells a setup where is a double length of cord and all you do is tie a knot in the cord then hook above it. i think its hammock bliss or something.

Nope. I definitely will though! I like the idea of slap straps but the price line is also a little above me. that's why i wanted to make a homemade one

And thanks Rev! I know it can be a little inconvenient at times but that's exactly what I was looking for! I'm gonna use it until I find something else. Haha
