Despite the generosity of Mac being willing to drive an hour out of his way to pick me up, I will be unable to attend the hang. I wish you all a great time and I am truly sorry that I will be missing out on the festivities.
Thank you.

My wife and I are planning to hike down from Turners Gap (South Mountain Inn parking lot) to the Hang on Saturday, and we are looking for a ride back up to our truck around 2-3:00 pm. Google maps say the trip is 9.1 miles and takes 14 minutes one way. We will be glad to pay for gas or whatever is reasonable, so we don’t have to make the two hour trip down with two vehicles. If anybody else is interested in hiking with us, we are going to try to be on the trail by 10:00am and cover the 7.5 miles in 4-4.5 hours. Just let me know and we can work out the logistics.
For all of you who haven't been there before: the trail from the parking lot is on the east side (by the entrance you came in from). fairly flat with some rocks. Just before the A.T. shelter you make a left turn UP THE HILL. Its a little steep but short into the camping area.
I made the mistake the first time there of not knowing the trail was at the entrance of the lot & that when you got to the shleter it was to the left. It was after sundown and I couldn't see the trail to the left. After about an hour of walking around I finally found them. It was a much smaller group back then.
Unfortunately bicycles are banned from the parking lot trail. AARRGGHH!!
Was looking at the site. Hey do you still need a picnic table? Still bringing the coleman burner and LPG tank. If you need it, it will come and I have to bring my PU truck. If not, I can downsize to my car. Whatdaya think?

There are enough picnic tables at the pavilion to handle 100 people. I'd say downsize to car and save yourself some gas $$$. Thanks so much for the offer.
The MAHHA & HF has a great group of people. Kind and generous. I need to stop watching news so much and read more Hammock Forums. Sounds like a great bumper sticker. More Hammock Forums!

Reminder: We've got a service project this year! Bring a small trash bag or even a small WalMart type bag to carry in your pocket to pick up litter around the park and on the trail. The park is pretty clean but we will do our part to pick up the smallest bit of litter. My mom always said leave a place cleaner than when you got there. She must have been in scouts!
Perrito has volunteered to bring the big strong trash bags for Saturday potluck and the firecircles at the hang sites. Thanks buddy!

I'm sad I am missing it this year. Have fun all and I will be thinking about all the fun you are having.
Maybe I'll hang Saturday night to be there in spirit.

sigh.... Looks like I may be needed home this weekend. Flamingo came down with a splitting barf inducing headache (I know... TMI) I am somewhat loathe to leave her by herself when she gets like that. I think the better part of valor would be to stay here and make sure everything is ok rather than going out of state and out of contact.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
