Redhawktx and I are planning a mountain hang in the next 2-4 weeks to escape the TX heat.
Considering NM and / or CO, from around Red River area to Pagosa Springs (Williams Creek). Will consider other areas of merit. No major hiking, just semi-car camping, cool fresh air, good trees, nice day hikes, etc.
Any recommendations?

I don't know if it's too far for you, but one of my favorite places in southern CO is Thirty Mile Campground near Creede. Nice trees for hanging. Great fishing. Many day hike opportunities. One of the gateways into the Wemenuche Wilderness. Campsite 11 was perfect for our needs... If you decide to go, make reservations online.
Watch out for fires!
