Learning how to tie a couple knots never killed nobody. First ones I ever learned were pretty hard but they've kept my shoes on me for the better part of 45 years.

Just a quick long-term usage update, 6 years already! :-)
This tarp (and another one I made of the same design) has held up great. I've taken one on pretty much all of my overnight hiking trips in many different countries, blazing hot summer, freezing winter, rain and shine, hammock or tent. No problems whatsoever. Tie outs are holding great with just the 3M double sided tape and no sewing and no reinforcements.
Also, here's how I like to attach the guy lines to the tarp. The loop at the end allows moving the cordage quickly around the different tie outs for different setup styles. I usually two carry guy lines that are longer than the others (typically four) for making some weird setups possible.
The tiny elastic loops keep the guy lines in neat little bundles and prevent tangles.
