    Sept Visit to Portland OR

I am going to be visiting my daughter in Portland OR Sept 8-15. I have read of all the hammocker gatherings in that area and wished I could meet some of you. My daughter and I will volunteer at the Japanese gardens in the evenings on Sept 11-13 while I am there. She works during the day. Additionally, I was thinking of extending my time in the area to maybe meet some hammockers in the area, hike a bit, see the coast. I could take a train, rent a car, etc. to make plane reservations by midnight tonight to take advantage of their sale. If anyone has any suggestions to help me extend my adventure I can be in the area another week, which would give me a weekend to plan with folks who work, or I could maybe meet others during the week.

I can hike gently up to about five miles, and would prefer car camping rather than backpacking for this outing. I would love any advice about good camping or B & B type destinations.

PM me if you need more information. I will be burning the midnight oil deciding what dates to reserve.

I would love to be a part of this, but need to wait for a bit before committing. Heck, I would even be up for just a meet and greet in a restaurant in PDX.

A meet and greet would be nice, and would be easy to arrange if other plans evolve or not Let's see what happens and keep this in mind, Olzeke. Thanks for the quick come back.

My daughter lives in the Northwest area of Portland within walking distance of the Japanese Gardens.

Turlelady that is a great time of year the kids will just be starting school so the beautiful locations around there will be great and much less busy than they would have been a week before.

I figure it is too nice a time and area to hurry home. I think I have decided to just make the reservations to give me an extra week, and know I will make a plan to fill the time with fine adventure. My courage to solo travel in unfamiliar areas needs to be strengthened!

I'm planning to move to Portland from Eugene in August, so hopefully I'll be available for a get together. Will your daughter be hanging as well? We have a spare hammock and pad if that will help convince her. There is really no shortage of beautiful spots in the area. Check out http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/maps/load.php

an old thread i missed... but am interested in regaining momentum for.

if the trip is still on--- maybe an easy car camp outside of portland on the coast would be suitable.
