    Hello from Alabama

    Hello Everyone,

I'm new to hammocks (at least the ones you camp in). I've never done much camping either, though I've lived in a military tent for days, weeks, or months at a time. I was intrigued when I saw some folks hanging from the trees in a local park. While doing some research I discovered hammock camping and have become enthralled with it. I have not gone camping yet, but plan on doing it once the weather cools off a bit.

Welcome from Texas! Glad to have you on the forum. You will find lots of advice on making your first hang a good one. It only took me one try to move from tents to hammocks exclusively.

Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Welcome form Montgomery, not too far south of you. I have camped over at Chewacla State Park there in Auburn before. Not my favorite place, but not too bad. They have a few nice trails to hike.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

aboyd: I was thinking of making my first hammock camping expedition to Chewacla.

ewok: I plan on getting a Hennessy Expedition Asym hammock with the zipper soon.

Cool. That's what I have (sans zipper) I think you'll like it. Every time I lay in mine I go to sleep. If you are going to order from Hennessy go with a larger than stock tarp. Something like the hex.
