    Cuben fiber storage

I've heard that stuffing rather than folding is better for the long term longevity. Mainly because when you stuff it doesn't get folded in the same spot over and over again. Well, I heard that in the context of silnylon. Is the same thing true of cuben?

According to Cuben Tec. their products stand up to flexing and folding far better than other "fabrics" so I don't worry about it.

For best results you should try to roll it. I know that isn't always possible though.

Not generally, however, if you are in a year-round humid state/area it might be a good idea to open it up every once in a while if you are storing it for more than 6 months without use.

Just make sure the tarp is bone dry before storing it.

I have had a diy cuben tarp for several years. I roll it up from the side with the tie out cords thrown in. I have 3 short tubes of fabric that work similar to snakeskins. I put 1 in the middle and the other 2 around the area where the corners of tarp end up. I then fold it up along the length using the ridgeline tieouts wrapped around the outside to compress it. I have never found the need for a stuff sack. There are no sharp creases at any point doing it this way.

I hang mine inside for a day or two after a trip to let it dry then I roll it back up and store in snake skins. Open up about once a month to let it air out then store back in snake skins.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
