If you do get a top quilt and plan on using it on the ground ever, make sure you buy one that is wide enough. I've found that ground sleeping requires a wider top quilt than hammock sleeping does. I have a te-wa top quilt that I'm very happy with.

Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

ROOK .... i'v taken my JRB Stealth down into the mid 30's and was nice and warm.... might now need too much extra..
i think with a good base layer and another layer you should be good with just the Stealth you might want to try that out once the temps drop
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

    That's awesome news GLP, I'll
make sure to try that first! I'm a really cold sleeper - mostly my feet tho - so maybe with good layering and some down booties (way lighter and cheaper) I'll be alright. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait for it to get cold again

on a thru hike you'll be seeing temps into the low teens, maybe single digits. i personally wouldn't try that with a summer top quilt...

May be the wrong place to post but hey, I'm new. I have a http://tewaunderquilts.webs.com/ on order and was wanting a non binding top quilt. I have sleeping bags but they are too big and restricting so I just received this http://wiggys.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=197 and gonna give it a try. On sale $44 delivered. Top quality and with my UQ should take me into mid fall here in the Midwest. If it dosen't work I'm only out a little and my mutt can have a nice place to lay

I have used my sleeping bags as TQs. The sleeping bags work great for car camping but I find them a little on the heavy side for backpacking.

Now that I have some nights in my hammock and a better idea of whats going on with my gear I am starting to invest in dedicated TQs and UQs.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
