Lurking no more in Miami

Hi all, Ive been lurking the forums for about a year maybe less.

BUT NO MORE!!

My name is John and I live in Miami, Florida. I camp in the Big Cypress Preserve. Prime hanging spots in there so I will definitely post videos and pics. Hope to find more south florida hangers!

MOVING ON

Ive finally received my DD camping hammock ( a "second" I purchased for half price)

Im hanging as I type!

Well Im using the standard setup it comes with but Im ordering my WhoOpie Slings from Opie and am going to be making my own Mosquito Net ( its a must have in the muggy South Florida weather). Ive seen enough entries on the DIY thread to come up with a good idea for a design.

Your informative videos were awesome....... and informative. Im more than positive they have helped MANY of us new guys and gals.

Im going with the "shug setup" and I really want to get heavy into the DIY realm of hammocking ( already sewing loops into my webbing and made a few alcohol stoves.....the stoves may not be hammock related but i found out about them here)

As I'm sure you already know, there are a lot of hard core diy'ers on the forum, and an encyclopedic amount of knowledge on how to get it done. It's nice to have you out of the shadows and into the forum. I look forward to hearing all about your hangs among the cypress.

Don't forget that the dry "islands" in swamps are called "hammocks"... Head south on Highway 1, hang a right about Homestead area and you can be hammocking on a hammock in a couple of hours! Or hang a right around Kendall and you'll hit the area known as "The Hammocks". But you already knew that.

Welcome from a former South FL'ian. (Couldn't take the ever increasing madness, bailed out just over 10 years ago)

"Back in the day" I used to backpack with a hammock in "the Cypress", too. It's a great, no, it's the only way to stay above the fire ants and rising rain waters. More comfy, too.

While I absolutely don't miss FL, I really do miss the 'Glades, if that makes sense.
