I am right about 250 and I have an ENO DoubleNest. I took the 'stock' cord and biners off of it and put whoopie slings and nacrobiners on it...also used a whoopie sling for a ridge line and I love it. I can really stretch out with it. I used some tow straps to make the tree straps. It hangs well and the straps don't stretch. I love it.

I've given some serious thought to going the DIY route but I don't have access to a sewing machine. I think if I end up getting one I'm definitely going to try making a hammock.
But now at least if I don't, I have several places to start looking to buy one!

The HH Safari is a long, wide hammock and is also ( strictly my opinion) the most overall comfortable non-bridge hammock, though some others are pretty darn close. But others will feel different, so like Rev says: madness!
If us bigger guys (6'6" @270) are looking into some of the monster type hammocks. (double nest, double deluxe, triple) At these sizes how do the wide & length effect each other. Like the eno is longer but the triple is wider. I'm assuming that it's one or the other thats more inportant to helping prevent your knees from hyper extending & such. But I'm still a noob in my first diy thats way to short.
Perhaps in the mad scramble for sexy light weightness I and everyone else has forgotten the most important function of gear – not that it must weight nothing, look good and be cheap, but that it must keep you alive and increases your survivability.

Well, I know that length is a good place to start if you're a taller guy, and I think the width of the hammock will give you more room to lay diagonally, and more flat. If I'm understanding everything correctly.
At 6'5, and now 403lbs (down 25), I have slept in both the eno double and the clarks nx250....can't go wrong with either....i am using the eno dn now.
Well while I don't really like the slapstraps, I freaking love the singlenest. I just wish it were a bit wider and longer. I'm considering the double, but I'd really like to take on the DIY route. But at the same time I really like the parachute fabric material vs. the ripstop nylon. And I don't know of anyone who's made their own hammock with parachute material..... soooo I'm at a crossroads, and I'm not paying the devil for Sh**! lol
"Parachute fabric" is a weasel term. That is an undefined term that has been abused and used wrongly for quite a number of years. Parachutes used to be made of silk. Having made that snarky comment let me say that I use polyester or nylon taffeta for my hammocks. I don't like ripstop for that purpose. Taffeta is a very robust fabric and IMO ideally suited for hammocks.

I am a big guy and I have a Clark NX250 and the Hennessy Safari among others and use them both. I favor the Clark when the elements will be out to get me and the Hennessy is the perfect place to be on warm nights and I am comfortable in both. If I had to give one the higher score for pure comfort forgetting all other criteria, Hennessy Safari by a smidgen. But what do I know I'm old and feeble plus as they say...HYOH, YMMV, etc etc, yada yada, blah blah blah.
