    Ripstop Nylon as belt liner

I've got a pair of old backpacks that I love, but the belts are atrocious and need extra padding. Since I can't find a replacement at REI or any sporting goods stores, I plan to just make padding sleeves to put over the old belts. What I have done is used old 1/4" blue sleeping pads and wrapped the old belts and duct taped them to attach the padding. It works, and it's ugly, so I want to cover the belts with a liner. Will ripstop nylon work well for this? I think it's the material to use, but someone on another thread mentioned polyester taffeta as being stronger for hammocks so it made me think twice. Thoughts?

Either ripstop or taffeta should wear fine, but what I'd be concerned with is will this backpack get wet?

If you expect it will get rained on it might be prudent to use a coated ripstop. I can just imagine those pads getting funky stinky if those layers get wet.

I don't expect it to get too wet, just from sweat and the like (I do live in AZ). If both types will work I will just use whatever I can find. Thanks for the advice!

perhaps as a 'slip (on/off) cover'; then they could be washed and the insides airdried? KM(who sews sometimes..)
