I had a similar experience this weekend, but with a SteriPen instead of a Gameboy. I didn't think to take a picture, but Genuine Draft said my set-up looked like a giant blue bug-zapper. Was kind of fun to be out this weekend with the twins; MacCat Deluxe in sil and MacCat Deluxe in cuben.
Trust nobody!
So I guess the CF won't shade you as well as a non-see-thru tarp if you're wanting to get out of the sun?
After lazying around yesterday morning in camp, I can say for sure it is not a provider of cool shade. I could feel the heat building quickly and I had a nice porch front set-up going. Fully pitched, I bet it would be like a greenhouse under it. On the plus side, it will get you up and moving early in the day.
Trust nobody!
The other cuben option with the reflective shield that Lawson Equipment (mountainfitter) increases the shade for pretty close to the same weight. So I guess the CF won't shade you as well as a non-see-thru tarp if you're wanting to get out of the sun?

we grow old because we stop hiking."
-- Finis Mitchell,
For me the transparency of CF is a negative. It provides little to no "privacy" and its color isn't conducive to stealth hanging! Love the weight, but those other factors will keep me using my sil nylon BMJ until they offer some darker colors!
Mornings differ for me depending on where I pitch. so far I have thrown a shirt on top to provide some shade on one sunny morn.
But I really do like looking up through it.
Also love the weight. As I camp more with mine we will see.
There are pros and cons to all gear it seems but I am hanging in the woods so no big deal.

Whooooo Buddy)))) All Secure in Sector Seven
Hmmm, sounds like if you soak your CF tarp in permithren, you have the world's largest bug zapper.
you guys are crazy. i can sleep in until around 10 without even having a tarp up at all!
