If you sew baffles that are 2 inches tall but the loft is 3 inches. which do you use to estimate tem. rating 2 inches or 3 inches.

2" baffles spaced 3" apart will allow a proper fill of down to loft 3" more or less.
2" baffles spaced 2" apart will allow a proper fill of down to loft less than 3" more or less.
2" baffles spaced 1" apart will allow a proper fill of down to loft only slightly more than 2" more or less.

The baffles are spaced 7 in. Its an under quilt 70"x 43". The chambers are 7"X70"x2". Six total. I came up with 980 cubic inches. The plan is to fill each with 1.5 oz of 800 fill down. On a test panel I did I got a 3" loft with some left over down I had, all thought it did dip down a little where the baffle was at, but not down to 2". I just was not sure which mesurement to use 2" or 3". I'll finish the quilt when Storm Crow gets some Down in.
I prefer to make the chambers 2.5 times the baffle height. So, if i were to make 2" baffles, I would space them about 5" apart. I have found that this keeps the down from shifting.
I then calculate the down required based on 1.5 times the baffle height. So, in your case, 2" x 1.5 = 3"
I would go with enough down to get you the 3".
But, thats just me, HYOH and MYOQ (make your own quilt)
